I work primarily through painting.
I consider painting not only as an image, but as a process of transformation. Painting becomes a threshold. A site where the body, material surface and perception intersect, where inside and outside, presence and absence, exposure and protection are continuously negotiated.
The core element of my practice is adaptation. Rather than treating the work as a place where meaning must be found or explained, I want the work to become a place where I encounter meaning. I am less interested in forcing interpretation onto the work, and more interested in how actions, materials, surfaces and decisions gradually build towards an outcome.
Materiality shifts my attention from image to process. Through surface, gesture and time, material becomes a space for introspection and physical encounter. Like the body, it holds traces of contact, pressure and transformation. Material is not only a support for image, but a presence that records process and becomes part of meaning.
My recent works move between image, object and symbol. Familiar signs become unstable and personal, tested through colour, surface and reduction. Meaning is not fixed in one object, but produced through relation, sustained looking and physical presence.
The emotional intensity I am searching for might be achieved more powerfully through reduction rather than accumulation.
